Checksum Errors with certain SSD

Description

Three user have reported recently problems with SANDisk SSD Plus 2.5'' (http://a.co/0MMTCCH) and one user has reported similar problems with 3D Nand (http://a.co/4iN1l5b). These SSD have in common that they both use a Silicon Motion Controller (SM2246 respectively SM2256 or some variant of them).

I agree this is a subject that should not be ignored as a WD Green just came up as the third search result for economic SSD's. I also see SM2262 used in kingston's KC2500 SSD's released last year which will have to be tested to see if they are also affected by this issue.

Actually the issue is still current. I just got an Intenso High performance SSD and use it with a SATA to USB adapter and have the same issue. I'll try disabling trim and see what happens.

I replaced a brand new SanDisk SSD  boot drive. Now I am running a brandnew WD Green SSD and it is reported as DEGRADED too.

 I can provide further information, if required.

Scratch that, my WD unit with older firmware suffers from this as well, despite the older firmware:
