Trying to track this down has proven to be....difficult to say the least. On my local system I've written a module to trace memory allocations by the middlewared process.

While there are many caveats with this, it allowed me to spot some low-hanging fruit for extremely memory hungry methods. 1 of which was a 2 line trivial fix that saved 160MB+ of RAM allocation.
