Not only are the default column widths either too wide or too narrow, and not only is the resize method flaky, but the GUI doesn't save your adjustments, even after adjusting the column widths to the correct sizes.
In fact, you can see this is a common confusion among users. Here are some forum posts for reference:
2015:
https://www.truenas.com/community/threads/save-column-widths-in-gui.35106/
2015:

2020:
https://www.truenas.com/community/threads/gui-column-widths-not-adjustable.89512/
2021:
The posts from 2015 claim the feature is being introduced with version 10 of FreeNAS, yet currently on TrueNAS Core version 12.0-U2.1, this same issue still exists. (Changes revert back to visually unsound defaults.)
The main issue is not simply that the default widths are visually confusing, nor that the GUI is flaky when trying to resize them. The real issue is that the column widths always revert back after adjusting them.

I also find the column sizing weird, I think it's an issue with the GUI framework itself.
It's really funny resizing a column only for it to not actually resize as expected...

a column that consists of "yes" or "no" doesn't need 1/4 of the screen.... :\
is there not a way to have it size the columns appropriately, or else at least have them remember the sizes i change it to?
