VNET/stability issues on ASIX AX88179 on USB

Description

Hi, I'm using D-Link DUB-1312 usb3 ethernet adapter which is based on ASIX AX88179 chipset. My NAS is running on a crummy J1900 motherboard which only has realtek adapter which gave me issues in FreeNAS 11.3, since the only PCIe x1 slot mobo has already filled with a SATA card I don't have much options when it comes to ethernet adapters.

After upgrading FreeNAS 11.3 to TrueNAS CORE 12.0 I'm experiencing weird issues in my jails - most HTTPS requests from the jail get stuck after connecting, trying to use openssl s_client -connect on most servers get stuck after CONNECTED(00000003), most HTTP requests go through, some get stuck at 0 bytes when actually trying to download data. This affects ALL jails running with VNET enabled, even jails using 11.4-RELEASE.

Jails that have VNET disabled do not have this issue. Trying to fetch anything from host os itself also doesn't have issues.

I tried fiddling with MTU, disabling/enabling hardware offloading, creating brand new jail, turning BPF on/off - nothing helps.

The only thing that does help is going back to using the realtek adapter which doesn't sound very stable, although stability of it also got a downgrade since 12.0 - adapter sometimes spontaneously dies, requiring a complete reboot to recover NAS.

Hello,

I am sorry to hear that happened but unfortunately there isn't much we can do ourselves if the NIC driver is to blame.

We suggest you contact upstream FreeBSD with your issue.

Alternatively you could give TrueNAS SCALE RC.1 a spin.

Made two dumps just in case, one with dlink/asix connected to the net and other with realtek connected to the net.

Debug dumps, dlink one is when using USB ethernet interface, realtek is when using onboard interface.

Yes. That should be fine.

should I make debug file when using USB adapter to connect to the network? I currently set it up to use onboard one as a work-around but USB adapter is still connected.
