Investigate why querying vms takes so much time after restarting middleware as this can take potentially lots of time. It is also highly likely it's unrelated to vms and just middleware itself that it's processing lots of bits at the time and is not able to entertain more requests promptly - but in either case, we weren't seeing this much lag before.
