Hostname lookups for "ix-truenas" hitting external DNS server

Description

SCALE is constantly querying for hostname: ix-truenas and ix-truenas.my.searchdomain.com. This appears in my external DNS server logs. And of course the external DNS server is not able to resolve that host (since my actual SCALE server hostname is `truenas`)

To prevent this I have had to manually add ix-truenas and ix-truenas.my.searchdomain.com to the /etc/hosts file pointing to 127.0.0.1

(I also tried adding those entries to the Hostname Database field in Networking tab without success – it does not persist the values)

This should be fixed by adding `127.0.0.1 ix-truenas` to the default /etc/hosts file on SCALE

it seems we have made some progress on kubernetes end but we are still testing to be sure that is indeed the case. Kindly refer to the linked ticket for following up on this issue. Thanks!

Was this resolved upstream in k3s? Is there a linked case?

Had to add entries in the host name database too as it was 50%+ of my dns requests.

Please share the link here for the upstream issue you created.

Initially, I went on making changes to hosts file but the team recommended against it. Now, I am filing an upstream issue to k3s as --kubelet-preferred-address-types does not seem to work as intended with k3s in this case.
