Thank you for reporting this issue! This bug has been resolved in TrueNAS SCALE and is not planned to be back-ported to CORE. If this is a critical workflow issue for you, we would strongly advise promptly upgrading to TrueNAS SCALE.

This bug will not affect SCALE versions, just FYI. It also only impacts users who have enabled SMB2 AAPL extensions.

Adding fruit:zero_file_id = false to auxiliary parameters fixes the problem.

More observations:

  1. Both mv and Finder fail to move a file within SMB share when mounted from macOS on Core 13.3

  2. Mounting from Debian 12 works. The issue must be specific to macOS client.

  3. All macOS versions tested fail, even the 4 year-old one (on a Mac that can’t be upgraded), as well as currently released one.

  4. This is definitely a regression since 13.1
