TrueNAS SCALE Stuck on "Loading Initial Ramdisk"

Description

I'm attempting to install TrueNAS SCALE 22.02 RC2 on a Lenovo server and at the very beginning of the boot process I receive the following message:

error: compression alogorithm empty not supported

error: unsupported embedded BP (type=4)

After this screen, I get the following:

Loading Linux 5.10.81+truenas

Loading initial ramdisk

And it just hangs here. I'm not sure what other information is required to submit a proper bug report, so if there's anything else I can provide, let me know.

, apologies for the late response. I finally got a chance to revisit this and your solution worked! Editing the GRUB boot option allowed me to temporarily boot and disable the serial console, which appears to be a permanent fix.

I also see this problem periodically.  I do not have a serial console.

, this might happening because of serial console. Can you please try after disabling serial console and share the results?

To disable serial console, we have to edit the boot menu shown when we boot TrueNAS SCALE:

Press 'e' with the first boot entry selected, you should see the following editor window:

Please remove 'console=ttyS0,9600' or 'console=ttyS0,115200' and add 'loglevel=8', as shown below:

Now press 'Ctrl+X' or 'F10' to boot.

If you are able to successfully boot, you can disable serial console permanently by going into the webui and then:

System Settings --> Advanced --> Console, and set Enable Serial Console: Disabled.

If the problem persists, due to 'loglevel=8', we will see some logs on the display, that can provide more insight into what is going on.

I also gave up a little while ago. I had no issues installing Ubuntu server, which continues to work fine.

No, surprisingly nothing else has given me any issues at all. In fact, I recently installed Fedora Server to give that a try and it installed just fine.
