Long SMART Extended Self Test stuck at 90% for more than 48 hours

Description

We have 6- 16TB drives, SATA 7200 RPM in a pool with Cache drives

According to the smartctl CLI, the scan should be done within 24hours

Extended self-test routine
recommended polling time: (1467) minutes.

Affecrted Version: TrueNAS-12.0-U6.1 and TrueNAS-12.0-U8

Everything is brought to a standstill. I had to manually cancel the scans to allow normal Virtual machine workload performance.

extended offline tests are performed by the HDD firmware. Its also HDD firmware responsibility to prioritize actual I/O over these tests. I don't believe TrueNAS or underlying components have any control over this.

Whether host reset (reboot) will affect extended offline test is also up to HDD controller.

Can we do anything else for you to resolve your issues?
